Welcome to my adult ballet/beginner website.
I’m an adult ballet dancer myself, having danced when I was little then stopped, then picked it up again on and off due to family circumstances.
Now that I’m fully adult and earning my own keep, I am in more control of my dancing life. I am more able to choose how I spend my time, travel on my own and pay for lessons and ballet gear.
To me, that freedom and opportunity alone is fantastic.
That is one of the main benefits of dancing ballet as an adult, amongst other reasons why learning ballet as an adult is better.
Definition of Adult Ballet Dancer
How would I define and adult ballet dancer?
To me, an adult ballet dancer is usually a grown-up, a recreational dancer who isn’t trying to become professional. However, that doesn’t mean she or he isn’t serious about being trained properly or isn’t passionate about dance.
I’ve met many awesome people that way. By day, they work in offices, laboratories, restaurants and shops or are at school studying something really sophisticated like biochemistry, and then they are dancers by night.
About Adult Ballet Diaries
While Adult Ballet Diaries is really an extension of what I go through learning to dance ballet again as an adult, it is also a combination of experiences, interviews and advice by my other fellow adult ballet dancer friends, my ballet teachers and other ballet/health professional friends. I’m quite a nerd as well and I tend to read deeply into a subject, as well as ask many questions. Though, this is not a professional site and use the information at your own risk! Just to be safe, please see your health professional before trying out anything as suggested on this site.
A site devoted to the adult ballet community
While I love trawling beautiful websites of professional companies, dance critics or professional ballet sites, I feel that the adult ballet community remains largely ignored.
Sure, adult ballet is not as exciting as learning to be a professional dancer or taking part in ballet competitions. We don’t argue and debate over how to break in pointe shoes or sew ribbons. We’re just grateful to be able to go on pointe!
Thus, I thought I’ll create a website devoted to adult ballet and try to make it as informative and beautiful as possible.
I hope you’ll enjoy your time here…and keep dancing! 🙂
